French

The French curriculum begins each year with an introductory period of two months, after which classes are taught immersion style. The curriculum deepens students’ command of spoken French by teaching the grammar that gives the language its shape. Classwork continues to be speech-centered, whereas homework is more reading- and writing-intensive. Students who complete the Upper School French curriculum are practiced in writing simple-to-intermediate essays, reading intermediate literature, and using nuances of tense, condition, and mood to describe and reflect on their experiences.
