At The Academy, making is a way of thinking with your hands. Our students design, build, and problem-solve their way through real projects, learning that a good idea is only the beginning and that the making is where the real learning lives. We start the year with printmaking, exploring how cultures around the world have made prints and trying our hand at multiple methods. From there we engrave, we build cardboard sculpture, and we keep going, taking on new materials and new challenges as the year unfolds. Along the way our students learn to plan, to experiment, to fix what doesn't work, and to take pride in something they made themselves. The making culture at The Academy is patient, curious, and a little bit fearless, and it teaches a lesson that reaches far past the workshop: that the world is something you can shape.

A space to get messy and dream.
