Art & Art History
“It fills me with joy to hear a parent recount a story of their child’s visit to a museum, being fully mesmerized by a painting they had learned about in class, or recognizing an artistic style such as Pointillism or Impressionism.”
Sandy Drobny has shared her enthusiasm for art with Academy students since 2002. She holds a B.S. degree in Environmental Design from the University of California, Davis. Her professional background is in one-of-a-kind artwear and textile design. As an artist, she specializes in reusing discarded materials in new ways. She has held the coveted Artist in Residence position at Recology in San Francisco, as well as residencies at St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County and the City of El Cerrito. Her work has been featured in a variety of gallery exhibitions and in a number of print publications that include San Francisco Magazine, Readymade, Handwoven, and Ripley’s Believe it or Not.  Ms. Drobny brings her passion for weaving into the classroom on a regular basis, but she also shares her textile expertise with the wider community through participation in Maker Faire and demonstrations with her weaver’s guild. Ms. Drobny enjoys swimming in any lake, pool, or ocean, and her interest in travel allows her to explore many faraway places.
